Swift Apprehension in Pellet Gun Assault Case

Officers from 42 Division swiftly arrested a Toronto man on February 29 in connection with the pellet gun attack on a 76-year-old woman during her routine walk in the Malvern area on February 28. The assailant, identified as 27-year-old Umar Saad, faces multiple charges, including assault, weapons offenses, disguise with intent, and breaching conditions.

The victim sustained injuries to her hands and face but is expected to recover, although she was left traumatized by the random assault. Inspector Mike Williams, speaking at a news conference on March 1, expressed gratitude to the 42 Division officers for their prompt apprehension of the suspect and the community for their support during the investigation.

Highlighting the collaborative effort, Williams acknowledged community members who provided valuable video footage, aiding in Saad’s arrest. He emphasized the significance of community cooperation, stating, “We would not have found this person so quickly without their assistance and support.” Williams also addressed the impact of the incident on the community, assuring residents that Saad is now in police custody, hoping to restore a sense of comfort and security.
